Meet the Midwives

Hello! Gina has transitioned to a Denver area birth center: Colorado Birth and Wellness and Nedra has retired from midwifery. While we are no longer offering home birth services in Denver, we hope that you will find some good information here. Hope to see you at the birth center!

Gina Gerboth, MSM, MPH, RM, CPM, IBCLC

Gina Gerboth has been a midwife in Colorado since 2010. She is a Certified Professional Midwife (registered in the state of Colorado) and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. She is a core faculty member at Midwives College of Utah. She teaches continuing education courses locally and has presented nationally at the Midwives Alliance of North America annual conference and online for Gold Midwifery and the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives. She was recently elected to the Board of Directors for the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council and the Academic Collaborative for Integrative Health.

Gina holds a Master of Midwifery degree from Midwives College of Utah where she focused her studies and applied project on interprofessional collaboration and interprofessional education. She also holds a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health from the Colorado School of Public Health and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Colorado in Political Science with an emphasis in Women’s Studies (1995). She is also a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician.

Gina is married to her high school sweetheart, and is the mother of three sons, two of whom were born at home. When not busy with her practice, teaching, or other responsibilities, she enjoys knitting, reading, and spending time relaxing with friends and family.

Nedra Hale, RM, CPM

Nedra Hale is a Certified Professional Midwife and childbirth educator who has enjoyed successful and busy midwifery practices in both Arizona and Colorado since her licensure in 2008.

Nedra’s journey to midwifery began in the late nineties, when she became a certified childbirth educator. Soon, she began training as a birth doula, and discovered through this work that she believed she could better serve mothers and babies as a primary provider. Nedra attended the Arizona School of Midwifery and trained under wonderful, experienced midwives in Arizona, before practicing there. In 2011, Nedra moved to Colorado to care for her ailing mother, and began serving the home birth community in the Denver area as a Colorado Registered Midwife.

Nedra is the mother of four children, three of whom were born at home. When she is not busy working, she spends as much time as possible outside, hiking the beautiful Colorado trails. Nedra and her children enjoy learning through adventure at every opportunity, and when the weather isn’t ideal for adventure, she may be found sewing like mad to finish another project, or curled up with a book by the fire.

Testimonials

I switched care to Metro Midwifery in the 25th week of my pregnancy because I was less than happy with the care I was receiving at the midwifery center attached to a hospital. My first pregnancy was with midwives in a freestanding birth center in Albuquerque who provided me with very holistic care which was missing at the hospital. I was nervous about attempting a home birth but felt reassured after talking with Gina prior to
switching care and reading literature on home births. All my visits at Metro Midwifery were about an hour long in which the midwives talked about all aspects relevant to the pregnancy. There was no excessive and senseless use of technology (I say this as a scientist who loves technology and appreciates that there is no replacement when technology is in fact needed). Finally, I had a long prodromal labor. The midwives’ obvious competence and quiet confidence gave me the strength to not go to the hospital to get induced. In this, my second labor, I only felt the pain was unmanageable for about 30 minutes in the end (vs. about 6-7 hours of unmanageable pain in my first labor). I believe this is partly because I was at home and partly because the midwives’ strategies to deal with labor. My baby was finally born at home in my bed around 8:00 p.m. with my husband, mother, and daughter all present and cheering us on. We were given quiet family time to bond with the baby before her health assessment was done (with a lot of regard for the baby’s comfort which is not given
priority at the hospital in my experience). Sleeping in our own bed that first night with the new baby was magical! We had postpartum home visits from the midwives on days 2 and 4 to check on mom and baby, followed by some visits at the office until the baby was 6 weeks. Throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum, all our queries were answered quickly and concerns addressed with empathy. The midwives had evidence based reasons for their recommendations throughout. They were very up to date with all the latest research which was very reassuring. We were also provided high quality literature to decide what we wanted for our pregnancy, birth, and baby. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. I wish everyone could have the competent and compassionate care that they provided. I will definitely go back to Metro Midwifery if I have any more kids.
