Mod Midwives: Birth Photography–an Interview with Monet Moutrie

Birth photography is hotter than hot right now. Instagram is lit up with amazing images of birth that only a professional photographer can capture. Our practice has had the pleasure of working with world-renowned photographer, Monet Moutrie, of Monet Nicole: Denver Birth Photography, on several occasions. Not only does Monet capture some incredible shots, her calm, encouraging presence has such a grounding effect on the birth space.

In our podcast interview, Monet shares a bit about her journey into the world of birth photography, tips for parents considering hiring a photographer for her birth, advice for new photographers–or those transitioning to the very different animal of birth photography–and even how she came to be named Monet. She also talks about the business she started (with our friend, another amazing photographer, Jennifer Mason), Birth Becomes Her, which was recently featured in a recent LA Times article.

Monet also tells a very entertaining birth story from one of her early births…sneak peek: babies rarely follow our rules!

We had so much fun visiting with Monet on a recent snowy morning. We hope you’ll take some time to learn more about this up and coming art form.
